Lettuce Update for February 13th, 2011

We went on a little 7 day vacation and despite my concerns, the DWC again proved to be "hands-free". I double-checked the water level, insured the lights remained on timers and were about 3 inches above the tops of the plants, and off we went. "No worries".

Upon our return, every thing was fine and I only had to add a gallon of water. The system can easily draw-down about 4 gallons before any problems would arise. "Peace of mind" was proven once again.
And check out the roots.  Very white and very dense.  This system is as efficient as the Ebb and Flow and twice as easy to build and maintain.

We will begin harvesting tomorrow!

  1. Nice, what else are you going to try? We did strawberries, tomato's and even some peppers. I LOVE that mass of pure white roots!!! Awesome!!!

  2. Thanks Al! Herbs and lettuce indoors and I'm planning on tomatoes and peppers outdoors this year with either bubble buckets or a recirculating drip system.

Either way, it needs to be efficient, cheap, and easy to use! I intend on posting the thought process and eventual design and build over the next couple months.

I am looking forward to the challenges of the outdoor grow and the effects of temperature and environment.

BTW, love your blog. http://www.dandelion-acres.blogspot.com/ I plan on having chickens in the near future and will have even greater access to fly fishing. Can't wait.
